Escaping the Maze was supposed to be the end. Instead, it was only the beginning. After surviving the Maze and finally reaching the outside world, Aria believes the nightmare is over. Alongside Newt, Thomas, Teresa, Minho, and the remaining Gladers, she is taken to a secure facility where they're promised safety, food, and answers. But something doesn't feel right. The staff watch Aria and Teresa differently. Questions go unanswered. Entire sections of the facility remain off-limits. And every day, Aria's strange dreams become more vivid-dreams of laboratories, scientists, and a life she can't remember. When she and Teresa are separated from the others without explanation, Aria begins to suspect that escaping the Maze wasn't what WICKED expected. Or maybe it was. As secrets about the trials begin to surface, Aria finds herself caught between the memories she's starting to recover and the people she's desperate to protect. Most of all, Newt. Because the deeper Aria digs into the truth, the more she realizes that some secrets were hidden for a reason. And some truths are dangerous enough to destroy everything. The Maze is behind them. But the real test is only beginning.
