In the future, we live in a society where everyone is in caste systems based on their zodiac sign. Each caste system lives in a different part of the country and castes rarely interact with each other, unless they are married in. At the first of every year, every girl who has turned eighteen over the past year is given the choice between three of her most compatible signs and must choose which one she would like to join to find the love of her life. Men always stay in their castes and only leave their castes if they work for the royal family. Every time the prince or princess of the royal family turns eighteen, every eighteen year old is entered into a drawing, where ten random people are chosen from each of the four castes and compete to become the next queen or king.

Maxon looked like an angel. His golden hair was slicked back, and his tight tuxedo defined his strong arms. He looked over at me and winked. Heat crept up my cheeks as I averted my eyes and focused on the wine in front of me. As I took a sip, the world sort of faded, and there was Maxon, standing tall. Right in front of me, with a bright smile overtaking his face. He put a hand on my shoulder and guided me to the dance floor. It was empty. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an orchestra appeared and started playing the slowest music I had ever heard. He put a hand on my waist as I looped my arms around his neck. We swayed to the music for a moment before he dipped his head downwards and tilted my chin. I closed my eyes, anticipating the sweet kiss that would soon be on my lips. We were getting closer, and closer, and closer. . . Suddenly, the arms around my waist disappeared. I opened my eyes, only to see the orchestra gone and America playing the violin instead. Maxon was right in front of her, with an adoring smile on his face. She stopped playing, and pulled Maxon down for the kiss that I lost. I screamed. "Eadlyn, do...do you want a distraction right now?" Kile always knew what I wanted before I seemed to know it. I nodded my head and while my head was still bobbing Kile's lips were pressed to mine. The Heir was such an amazing book and there were sparks flying between Kile and Eadlyn through the whole thing. I couldn't help but finish their story.
