This is a short story I wrote about five years ago. I had a similar dream and used Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen for background inspiration. I had forgotten about this story until Disney released its Frozen. I was shocked by the similarities between the movie and my story (minus all the singing) that I dug it back out again. So consider this a darker version of Frozen.

This is a fairytale retelling of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. It is also influenced by The Snow Queen film. I do not own any rights pertaining to the film or book. Aspen has seen better days. Tending to a garden and helpless animals isn't the most praising job. Ever since early childhood, Aspen has been laughed at for caring for a rabbit, much less a plant! How justice would be nice. When she is given winter powers by Naesh the sorcerer, Aspen begins plotting her revenge. Lona's parents died years ago. The only person she has is her brother, Kaden. But when Kaden doesn't return from mirror making school for two months past time, Lona tasks herself with the responsibility to find him. First stop: Lenoth. Where the arts are supreme and Kaden's mirror master works. But when she arrives, Lenoth is abandoned. Color has been stolen. The population is gone. The Snow Queen's reign has begun.

Once upon a time, in a time where magic covered the earth, there was a faraway kingdom covered in sparkling ice and snow. This kingdom was ruled by a Snow Queen. The Snow Queen was a very beautiful woman; no man, woman nor child could scarcely glance upon her without being enraptured by her ethereal beauty. But for every level of beauty she possessed she was as equally wicked and evil. Without hesitation she would freeze all who opposed her rule. Encasing her victims in an icy shell leaving them alive. Frozen, for eternity.

(SEQUEL TO SPIRITS OF WINTER: JELSA) Elsa and Jack had expected the madness to end after Lady Pitchiner. They'd expected all of it to end: the constant glancing over their shoulders for danger, the gnawing hunger for the life of a Guardian. But it was all just part of The Snow Queen's sick scheme. The daughters of three vicious evil villains work to obtain the three objects and seek to become unstoppable.

A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Snow Queen'. Larry and Piccolo stumble across a book Dee had been reading. When they open it, Larry gets kidnapped by the Ice Maiden and both he and Piccolo get sucked inside the book. With Larry taken away, Piccolo must make her way to the Ice Maiden's castle to save Larry and get him and herself back home.
