Based on the album, 'A Grand Don't Come For Free' by The Streets (one of the most beautiful albums ever made). All characters in the story are from the album and made by The Srreets. I love the whole album and the story and thought, "why don't I write it as an actual story?". Not really many trigger warnings, just drugs, gambling, language and probably tears. xx

Sixteen year old Sheylinn Taylor has never had an easy life. Her mother became a drug addict and abandoned them, leaving her and her younger sister to live with their grandmother at the tender age of seven. Their father became one of the people she most hated after an unforgettable incident that happened two years ago. Besides her family issues, Sheylinn has insecurities of her own, as she has been bullied for as long as she can remember. Now meet Zion Mathews. After loosing his mother and older brother in a tragic shooting, he quit the streets, getting a chance at a fresh start. He secretly worked at a tattoo shop, because of his passion for art, but mainly played basketball to please his father, who had now turned to drinking ever since the death of his first son, and beloved wife. Also, the relationship with his long distance girlfriend seemed to be going downhill by each passing day, and Zion is trying everything he can to make it work. When the two meet at Tony's Tattoo Temple- Zion's work place, they instantly have a strong dislike for each other. Zion disliked Sheylinn's smart mouth, and closed off personality, while Sheylinn disliked Zion's somewhat arrogant and cocky attitude. What they hoped would be their only encounter, soon turns out to be their first as the two bump into each other almost everywhere they go. But what starts off as a strong dislike towards each other turns into something a lot softer as the two soon begin to realize that they needed each other in more ways than one. COMING SOON!!

Jessabell Jacob's (jj) is a powerful alpha female but she act as if shes a nerd at school to avoid attention due to what she does on the streets but one day she meets the one who is supposed to love her forever but not knowing who and what she is he rejects her but then something happens to change what he thinks of her. Camron is a strong beta on the search for his strong beta female but he finds her and shes not what he was wanting so he rejected her but it's not what it seems because one day on a walk on the streets he sees something that changes his mind.

From as long as Justice Williams could remember her life has been tough. Her mom didn't care and her father was dead. Her two older sisters were thots and her brother was on a killing mission. She did all she could to not be a statistic. Justice worked hard at school and was never recognized. She was use to it. The struggle of living the hood/fast life might be catching up to her. Would she make it? Or would she become another statistic?

The piercing sound of a train stopping wakes me up bring me back to the fowl smelling undergrounds of the train station. I lay on my back looking up at the dark clouds through the hole in roof better find some warm place to wait out the storm that's coming I think as I pack my bag. Before I leave I take my necklace off and stuff it into a pocket inside my jacket so no scumbag tries to steal it. My dad had given it to me before he died. He was the one that carved in my name on the back, Cleo. You see the world is not what is use to be the cities are all torn and beat up. The streets are more dangerous than ever. If you’re alone like me you have to stay hidden or your screwed. I have been on my own now for most of my life wondering the streets staying safe. I remember thinking that it would always be like this. Me being alone I mean but of course I was wrong.

The story is an odd to The streets album " a grand dont come for free". I loved the story told within the album and found that each time I listened to it, I would grieve for the characters, firstly because they floated off into the air when the album reached its final note, but also because they needed to be more, they needed more detail, meat on the bones mike and the band produced. so during lockdown, I wrote a backstage to each track, I made the people in the album my own. just like the album, the book has moments of both humour and melancholy. Each chapter brings something different and as the author, I shouldn't say I love it but I do and I really hope you do too! This is chapter 1 of 11
