"In that moment, my hatred of the System grew to an unbearable extent." My name is Angie. I lived in America, nowhere in particular. My parents had left me and my brother on the streets when we were only young. They hated us like the too many people that hate their children. My brother was the older one. He protected me, made sure we had to eat and put up rules that would allow us to survive. We were left out to die, in front of the fangs of older teenagers. But we survived. Somehow, we survived. But mere street gangs weren't our only problem. There was also the System. I had first heard of the organisation when they took away my brother, but I hadn't yet known what pain they would cause. I wish I had known - although it would have made no difference.

Before closing the door, the tallest of the Keepers pierced his icy eyes into Ernest's and asked him sternly, "You understand why she chose the Recreation System. Correct?" Ernest held his gaze for a moment, then nodded in affirmation. The Keeper nodded back and promptly shut the door. Ernest understood the systems well. The Labour System would work you until you bled, the Service System was for juveniles and minor misdemeanors to complete the mundane, tedious and mind numbing tasks that others did not want to do and the Defense System would make you a Keeper. Every system was corrupt but the Recreation System was the most unpredictable of them all. That being said, Ernest was certain of one thing, the Recreation System was the hardest to get out of alive.

Rule Number One: Trust the System implicitly. We always have your best interest at heart. In the Beginning, humanity was nearing its end. We were the cause of our own demise, and we were determined to take the rest of the world down with us. But from the ashes of our fallen ancestors rose the savior of all generations to come. The System brought order to our world. The System brought peace. The System saved us. We trust the System. We love the System. The System always knows best. ~~~~~ started: oct 13, 2018 ended: ---

This is one of the essays that got me hooked on writing essays. I was exposed to "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", which is a Very angry piece written by a Puritanical preacher about, basically, how we're all going to the inferno and the Christian God is the only thing stopping us from being there already. I was asked to write my own version of the piece. I was asked to write about a problem that I felt passionate about, to use such an elevated tone, and this was the result. The end result was a little more doctored, and a little less free, so this is my favorite version. The version I Really liked... and I hope you like it too. Perhaps you can relate :).

My Name is Liz. People also call me Lizzy or Lizard, but mainly Liz. I have one brother, Elijah, who I have been trying to find my entire life. Both of our parents were killed while we were young and "the system" ended up separating us to two different homes. I was tired of bouncing home to home. I was tired of getting blamed and punished for no reason and I was tired of not being wanted. I then took it upon myself to run. Run away from the terrible times, places and things that happened in "the system". I found a new home. Out here on this sandy peninsula where there is beach, forest, and protection from the outside world. The world is not safe anymore my friends and "the system" is not how it used to be. This "system" was called the government and the government was taking anything and anyone for them to win this world war. That would mean taking the men from their jobs and sending them off to war. Taking women from their homes and children to aid the wounded and to work in shops. And where does that put me and the other children? We had to grow up and work for the older generation's mistakes. We were forced to work in shops and run mills to get supplies out to the war zones. But I had been in "the system" for ten years until I decided on my 16th birthday I had enough. I ran and hid in this old underground bunker where I have now been for 8 years. I'm 24 now and have been living down here peacefully with all I could have asked for and more. I found other kids along the way that I have helped them beat "the system" and they have been living with me since then. They're now 12 of us down here and we are helping kids escape the horrors that we have all had to live with. This isn't 2020 anymore people this is 2053. And this is the story where we live in the shadows of "the system".

Foreword In the delicate cadence of poetry, we often find the purest expression of the human spirit-a place where words become art, emotions transform into verses, and stories are woven with threads of sincerity. "Adopted by Destiny" is a collection of poems that takes us on an evocative journey through the life of Previn, a soul who not only survived the complex landscape of the foster care system but emerged as a testament to resilience and the triumph of the human spirit. Within these verses, we encounter the essence of Previn's existence-a life shaped by the paradoxes of adversity and triumph, despair and hope, abandonment and acceptance. As we delve into these poetic narratives, we are invited to witness the beauty and complexity of a life that defied the odds, transforming a vulnerable child into a flourishing, productive individual. "Adopted by Destiny" is not merely a collection of poems; it is a chronicle of a remarkable odyssey. Each stanza, each rhyme, and each metaphor carries the weight of Previn's experiences, painting a vivid portrait of a life that navigated the tumultuous waters of uncertainty to find its true purpose. - P.

"Sh... everyone, listen! It's on!" A sudden hush fell over the area and for a couple of moments, all you could hear is the crackling of the fire. "Hello? If anyone's listening, this is your inside source to the System. I will have to play some music in a few minutes to avoid suspicion, but tomorrow is a gala for the eldest son of the King. It is taking place in the Central Square. I'm pretty sure, you'll know it when you see it. Well, I hope to see you there. This is Rebel One and I'm here to teach you how to hack The System."

What if you got to write your life? Like, you decide what happens, and if something goes wrong, you just erase it. There are some tiny problems though. 1) if you write in pen, and 2), well, 2 may not be so tiny. If something or someone comes in and disrupts that writing. Whether it's walking in your room when you're gone or if they find a way to stop The System. Which the only person/people who can stop The System is The System itself. But maybe there's something else. Some dark secret that no one knows about but The System. And maybe, just maybe, they're the ones that actually deploy it.

There are three groups. Only three. The System is always wanting to make their world perfect. They're perfecting the perfection. They have made strict rules. Rules that limit the possibilities of life. The People are perfect models for the world. They obey the rules, and think of The System as the rulers. Which they are. But not everyone is like this. The Ravens are the exact opposite of The People. They try to take down The System. They want the world to go back to the way it use to be. Even if that world was anything but perfect. These groups have something in common. They never mix. The People stay with The People. The System never mingled with anyone but with people from The System. And The Rebels never want to work with anyone but with The Rebels. Told by three, completely different people, how will this story end?

I was raised in a very interesting world. One where we know when we are Chosen. One where you know when you find your one and only. We all have watches implanted into our skin when we are born. This magical watch makes it so that we never get to date, unless you cheat the system. If you get seen by someone from the government, they take you away until your watch runs out of time. When your watch runs out of time, you've met your Match. Your one and only. The only one in the entire world that is made specifically for you. My name is Hope Dennis, and this is not your typical love story.
