KATE THOUGHT HER WORLD ENDED. The world did end.
But as she sat by the campfire, she couldn't help but smile. Her sister held her son so tight, as if he would disappear if she let go just barely. Kate couldn't blame her, and as she listened to the silence she began to think. And thoughts are one dangerous thing. That same morning she had been with Lori and Carl, trying to cheer her nephew up. His father had been in a coma for quite some time. Kate tried to be the strong point, Lori drowning in guilt. Her last interaction with her husband had been a fight, she had yelled at him.
But just pass lunch, Shane Walsh burst through the front door.
He didn't leave any room for argument, telling them to pack quickly before going back out to check on his car, and the street around them. Kate helped, getting some clothes-Lori running for the photo albums. When they got on the road, she demanded that they went back to her own house to get her own son-and her husband. They did, and they searched. They really tried.
Eventually Shane had to drag her back to the car, to evacuate to the big city of Atlanta.
