No one would have believed in the last years of the 19th century that human affairs were being watch keenly and closely by intelligences greater then mans. And yet, these minds studied and invaded. Only defeated by our tiny microscopic allies, bacteria. Yet afterwards the shock of the Martian invasion had caused worldwide panic. Cities were filled with people terrified of the Martians returning and finishing the job. But as the 1910s came the fear of Martians coming back had faded. But come the dawn of the 1940s and we would be proven wrong and would come the 2nd disillusionment.

An idea that I've had for a few days.

All Nelma had to do was live in a cabin in the woods for the whole summer, and then she would get her prize money! It's not like aliens from Mars were gonna' show up any time soon? Even if they did, they would be friendly, right? ...Right?! (This is a retelling of "The war of The Worlds". I recommend you read the book before or after you read this. Your choice! I've been thinking about the scene from Spielberg's 2005 adaptation of H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds that introduced the audience to the first Tripod to appear in the film, Pacific Rim, and my two "favorite" franchises. I plan to get it out.

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells first serialised in 1897 in the UK by Pearson's Magazine and in the US by Cosmopolitan magazine. The novel's first appearance in hardcover was in 1898 from publisher William Heinemann of London. Written between 1895 and 1897, it is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. The novel is the first-person narrative of both an unnamed protagonist in Surrey and of his younger brother in London as southern England is invaded by Martians. The novel is one of the most commented-on works in the science fiction canon.
