I thought they really came into play to kind of set the mood of the book) This is realistic is some ways, but I have brought some modern things into it. This is the story between Nadia and her best friend, Jeanne. Their seemingly only excitement through the war is letters from Francis, Nadia's fiance. Francis is fighting in the war, and is sending letters to inform them about what's happening. They are each others' only light in these times. It's 1944 and the war is still raging on. Everyone is hoping for the best.
