Samantha Malone has just been promoted to detective with the New York City's homicide unit, a feat she worked toward for just over a decade. But her first case is proving to be a doozy. A pampered party girl finds a strange package on her doorstep, and Malone and her partner (both professionally and intimately) are called to the scene. Their hunt for the killer-if indeed there even is one-takes them out of their jurisdiction and crossing the path of an out-of-state police force.
