For many years I have been intrigued by the multi-faceted life of Alexandra David-Neel who lived from 1868 to 1969. She lived for nearly one hundred and one years - years rich with adventure and mystery. Alexandra was a student radical in her youth, and went on to have a career as an opera singer, later becoming a feminist journalist who journeyed to India, Tibet and China. At the age of 55 she trekked incognito to the "forbidden city" of Lhasa, Tibet enduring incredible hardships. She produced thirty books including "My Journey to Lhasa" and "Magic and Mystery in Tibet." Her life and writings had a profound influence on the Beat culture and the emergence of American Buddhism. "Incognito: A Novel of Alexandra David-Neel" is a fictional work in progress. To confuse matters further, it is told from two different points of view - "Beyond the Garden Gate" is third person while "Alexandra" is first person point of view.
