Maris was the outcast of District 4, so when the announcement reached the ears of those who hated her, joy radiated through their hearts. A deadly, horrible joy. But why was she so hated? A (mostly) canon-friendly telling of the First Quarter Quell, in which the tributes are chosen by their own districts. This story dives into the social and political implications of this concept while also exploring the reasons why the Quarter Quells were announced in the first place. Most characters are original and created by me, but there are some who are owned by Susan Collins, author of the Hunger Games.
