There are three rules when Joel lets her trail him after an incident with her old and horrible crew,: Stay silent, follow him, and leave him alone as soon as she finds somewhere else to be. But for the first time since Belle was left to fend for herself she feels safe. And Joel sees that she is soft. Soft and delicate like a bellflower, like nothing else in this ruined, apocalyptic world.
