He was always different from the rest of his tribe because he can't be control by his aunt's "Hive-Mind" and he's probably the first dragon from his world to get a quirk. But Bloodworm asked the SilkWings to make a secret passageway just in case than at the end of the tunnel Bloodworm used a spell from a book of spells, from before the Scorching, she found when she was a dragonet to open a portal to another world, but unfortunately the portal will only stay open for one to go through. So, Bloodworm pushed her son through the portal with the spell book so he be safe from his wicked aunt and so she can't use the book of spells. Ever since leaving his mother Denki never told anyone about who and what he really is, and he wants to keep it that way. But when Kirishima and then Shinso disappeared and then Kiri comes back injured and with a few changes Denki starts having second thought about keeping his dragon size secret and what's with the ring that refuses to get off his finger has to do with helping him, his friends, and family?
