Nilveena and Tulina are two sixteen year old girls who meet one day out of pure chance and develop a dense, unique and organic friendship. Being in the same grade and different schools, they try to spend as much time as they can in the company of each other, along with managing their daily lives.
Tulina; an outgoing, extroverted person is an adopted kid with an extremely kind and understanding father. She has the unique ability to read words upside down, and tries to keep it a secret from all her class mates. Her brain has a knack for computers and brings a mechanical approach to almost every endeavor in her life. Nilveena; an anti-social, introverted girl, lives in a well off family with a loving mother and dysfunctional father. Reading novels and daydreaming aimlessly, she lets herself be driven by emotions and tries to understand the deeper reason for why people act the way they do.
Even though their interests are worlds apart, their vulnerabilities are what unite them in such an extraordinary manner. Through Nilveena, Tulina starts realizing how differently she views the world and how taking into thought other people's views and perspectives can help birth understanding and bind them in the most unexpected ways. Through Tulina, Nilveena is given hope that the world has not ended and she can still fall in love.
Slowly realizing that they won't be able to be with each other most of the time, they cut and exchange each other's shadows. This gives them a feeling, that even though they are miles apart, their souls still physically exist near each other. They may not be talking to each other every day, but during the toughest of moments, the memory of each other is what keeps them going.
Love and friendship does not necessarily mean that two people should constantly be together. Sometimes, love can be that one small spark with a stranger that keeps you warm your entire life in a way nothing else ever did.
