Oliver has grown up with stories of people he's never met, and photographs of a life his parents had before he was born that they left behind. Suddenly, his parents announce that the family is traveling back to the town where they first met, and reuniting with all of their old friends. When Oliver first arrives, he is disappointed by how ordinary the town looks. And then, he is introduced to someone, and suddenly a secret he's been hiding from everyone, even himself, comes to light.

Leslie always thought she knew exactly what she wanted. In life, in jobs, in relationships, in everything. But while she tries to achieve all that, she can never really seem to achieve happiness, and she especially can't seem to ever loosen up. Everybody in her life is always supportive of everything she does, but there is only one person who ever truly challenges her to do anything new: Tom Haverford. - Tom always seems to have these awesome ideas running around in his head, but when he puts them into the world, they fail again and again. He never really seems to guess where his life is gonna go, and he never really seems to have a plan. But his going with the flow mentality can only lead him so far, in a meaningless, directionless life, and he wishes he could be more like his co-worker Leslie Knope: organized, sure of herself, and well adjusted.

The Parks Department has just heard the news that Leslie has been removed from city council. Now that her position is officially lost, Leslie is feeling in the pits and doesn't know how to handle herself. She soon realizes that the only thing that will keep her mind away from the news is to do what she does best - be the outgoing person she is and shower her friends with love and appreciation. Leslie quickly sets up a celebration that consists of giving each member of the Parks Department personalized awards.
