"Thanks anyways," I squeezed his hand before heading up the stairs.
"Hey," Freddie called after me. I turned around. "Can I get your name?"
I smiled. "Noemie."
"Noemie," Freddie repeated. "That's a pretty name."
"You're a pretty guy."
Did I just say that out loud? I slapped my hand over my mouth as if that would stop the words that already evaporated in the air. Then I slapped myself on the neck for feeling embarrassed about saying it. I had one life to live and it certainly wouldn't be fueled by fear of rejection. I can't take it back, so I might as well take it in stride.
Freddie didn't seem bothered by my bold statement. He flashed a grin at me. "And you're a pretty girl. Good night, Noemie."
