When I met someone, who's destiny was the epitome of sad, I really thought I'd been in some epic adventure, like the old Greek poems. Needless to say, I also thought I'd score a good woman too... but I watched some stuff happen though, some real bad stuff, and that's when reality punched me in the gut and left me for dead. Nothing describes being in over your head more than having to face the fact that sunshine and rainbows isn't the conclusion in every situation. I certainly do know this, since my dad left, my mom turned to alcohol, and my sister was screwed over by the government. When you see people die, it isn't like it is in the books. You can't walk away from it the same. It changes you... and I don't think it changed me for the better. Speaking of my dad... the only fond memory I have of him is the story I asked him to tell me before I went to bed every night: 'There was a tree. It was a normal tree. It had leaves like a normal tree, a trunk like a normal tree, and roots like a normal tree. One day, a stupid man lit a match in the middle of this tree's home and dropped it by accident. The ground below caught fire, and the man only ran away from what he had caused. He didn't go to anyone for help, but just continued his life as the little match turned into a forest fire. Thirty days and thirty nights it lasted, until a heavy rain stomped it dead. When the smoke cleared, and people went in to mourn on the forest, what they found was that tree, still alive and well. They worshiped it for a long time, calling it an act of God, or a will of Satan himself, but the tree stood tall, never once faulting in the wake of their opinions. This tree, son, is what we will visit one day, and you should gather your own opinion on it..." Honestly, I never really could've guessed how that story played such an impactful role in my and many others' survival...

In a world where emotion is outlawed, expression is criminal, and the mind is the most feared weapon of all, one girl refuses to go silent. Ruelle has always been told she feels too much. Too deeply. Too loudly. In a future shaped by the ashes of war and the cold logic of artificial peace, the government has eradicated chaos the only way it knew how-by diagnosing it. Passion is now a pathology. Art is evidence. Expression is a confession. And those who resist are sent to ERA: the Emotional Rehabilitation Asylum, where thoughts are monitored, and minds are broken into compliance. Ruelle has survived here longer than most-not because she's strong, but because she's quiet. She knows the rules. She knows not to cry, not to dream, not to speak unless spoken to. She knows silence is safety. But silence can't hold back what's rising inside her: the memories they tried to erase, the truths they tried to rewrite, and the betrayal that got her locked away in the first place. Her mind has become her last sanctuary-and her last battlefield. Ruelle begins to see that madness might be the last form of freedom-and love, the most dangerous expression of all. In a regime where peace means control and sanity means submission, one thought can start a war. And Ruelle is done thinking quietly. ________________________________________ Perfect for fans of Delirium, Shatter Me, and 1984, Sanity's Crime is a haunting, poetic, and sharp-edged exploration of a girl who dares to feel in a world that punishes feeling. With mind-twisting dystopia, slow-burn rebellion, and prose that cuts like glass, this is not just a story about surviving the system-it's about destroying it from within.

    | Born to be a fire mage, destined for something greater. | For hundreds of years, Sombria has lived in peace thanks to the delicate balance the Council fosters between those with magic and those without. But unrest is brewing under the surface of Sombria, and the Council's tenuous hold may be on the verge of collapsing. All Alara ever wanted was to become a soldier, fighting to protect Sombria from the bruya rebels that threaten its borders with their chaotic magic and lawlessness. In order to succeed, she must first conquer her worst fear--her own innate magical abilities. Quenti, raised to hate the oppressive thumb of the Council, has only ever wanted a life of peace away from those who wish to control her. When her abilities are revealed, she finds herself at the center of a world she grew up despising, where magic is suppressed under the illusion of control. And her only means of escape may lie in trusting those she grew up doubting most. When Alara is given one final chance to prove she's worthy of being called a Mage of Sombria, the key to her success may lie within the untrusting Quenti. And Quenti doesn't plan on making things easy. Though as their two lives come crashing together, trusting each other may be the only choice they have to survive what's coming. -- COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE! πŸ“• This story is completely written, but these postings on Wattpad double as a beta run, so please feel free to point out typos or inconsistencies. A new day dawns in the city of Nova II. However, it is paradoxical to use the word "day" because, in this futuristic universe where everyone is implanted with a cerebral chip at birth, daylight never penetrates. A thick forest of terrestrial and flying buildings covers the space, without a single patch of sky being visible. The garish neon lights of screens and advertising holograms replace the sun. In this world where History no longer exists, humans immerse themselves in a permanent celebration of pleasures and entertainment, without questioning what might have existed before them, accompanied by hyper-realistic AIs developed by the consortium of companies that rule the world: Terranova. This world of infinite carefreeness will be disrupted by Mia, a young AI who accidentally discovers that this place has a past: an ancient city called Paris... Written by Pierre-Yves Tallec, based on an original idea by Stephan Boschat and IkoΓ― Studio. Translated by Alexandra Radlovic.
