Eyo it's me, back at it again with the dumb rare-pair fanfic! Ok sorry about the dumb damn Daniel reference, I've been rewatching a lot of SaltyDKDan videos. Anyways this is a fanfic that follows L and Matsuda in an au where Light is taken down before the time-skip, and now the Kira Catching Squad has disbanded, for the most part, as L and Matsuda still work together, doing cases with each other, and living together. This is going to be slightly serious, I'm going to try to make it slightly serious at least, but there will be fluff. Also there will be spoilers for the anime up until the time-skip. Also, also I probably won't mention the Watari orphanage much, since I don't feel like writing those boys, and sorry if there's any inconsistencies with the manga I haven't read it. After the Kira case Matsuda has been left jaded. He's not as laid back or trusting as he once was, despite wanting to be able to believe in the good of people. Sure, she doesn't know what really happened, but to her it seems like a real super hero story! Almost like a manga! She can be shy and awkward, fumbling and foolish when nervous. Traits that remind many of a young Matsuda. Get her started on a subject she's passionate about, though (like manga and anime); and she glows as she chats your ear off. Fearing this naive rookie will be broken as he had been, Matsuda becomes critical of her. Meanwhile, his friends see a chance to heal his fractured spirit. Matsuda was having a pretty great day. His complicated coffee order from the cafe down the street was made just right, someone on the street complimented his shoes, he even asked a girl out he met at the cafe and she said yes! All in all, nothing could spoil his day; not even Kira. That is, until he gets to the task force's head quarters.

I close my laptop shut as I just stare at him. "L..." He focuses on the papers in his hand instead of looking at me. "Either go to bed or wear your glasses.
