Keith and Kenleigh met in school, and he became her best friend, her bodyguard, and her shoulder to cry on. The pair caused much trouble in school, until Keith dropped out. Kenleigh was alone in school. Of course, they were still friends, possibly closer than ever. Kenleigh's dad pressures her to do well in school, and hates that she wants to be a musician. He thinks that taking away her records and guitar will stop her, but she goes with Keith to a local music store to play guitar, while he plays drums. When Kenleigh's father finds out, he gets so upset that Kenleigh quits school and moves in with Keith. As Keith and Kenleigh take care of each other, Kenleigh feels herself falling for Keith. Will Keith feel the same? Can Kenleigh teach Keith how to love before her dreams break her own heart?

The year is currently 2022. On January 4th, 2019, China bombs their pre-calibrated target, London, with the neutron bomb, which only kills off the human inhabitants of the city. On June 2nd, China bombs New York, leaving the city in ruin. Survivors of the bombing eventually die from radiation. On August 19th, China bombs Chicago, once again completely obliterating the city. It had only been a few years since the nuclear war with China and North Korea. China and North Korea had formed an alliance, and with China, the two countries were inevitably unstoppable. China had long since been planning for their domination, first taking out London, New York, and Chicago, which were the financial centres of the world.
