This story follows 16-year old Maxine 'Max' Halstead who is the younger sister of Will and Jay Halstead. Being the youngest sibling, and the only daughter with two adult brothers who just happens to be a doctor and a cop isn't always so fun as a teenage girl. Oh, and also, both of her parents are dead. The story follows Jay, a cop, and Hailey, a forensic scientist, as they work together to solve crimes. Jay and Hailey are both passionate about their work and are committed to bringing criminals to justice. As they work together, they begin to develop feelings for one another, but they are hesitant to act on them because they don't want to jeopardize their working relationship. Hailey is considering moving to a new city to become a detective, which would mean leaving Jay behind. Jay is supportive of Hailey's career aspirations, but he is also sad at the thought of losing her. As they continue to work together, they become closer and closer, and they begin to realize that they might have a future together. The book is a thrilling crime novel with a romantic twist. It explores the complexities of a workplace romance and the challenges that come with balancing personal and professional lives. After Hank gets kidnapped and Hailey risks her life to save him, she starts to question on when she'll ever have a break. Hailey makes the hardest decision of her life and leaves intelligence for a fresh new start, changing cities and her job. There's one thing that's she always wanted, to be a mom, a good one at that. Hailey is thriving, more happy than she's ever been, a familiar face appears back into her life.
