Tori Vega is drowning in a grief no one around her respects. Since losing her best friend, Hayley, to cancer, Tori has felt utterly alone. Her mother and sister, never fans of Hayley to begin with, turn her mourning into a battlefield, using cruel comments and cold indifference to remind Tori just how unwelcome her feelings are in her own home. Exhausted and hollowed out, Tori is dragged by her friend Jade to a "low-key" meet-and-greet for the rising star Beck Oliver. Unlike a typical Hollywood event, there are no managers or security-just Beck and a small group of fans. Tori wants to fade into the background, but she doesn't realize that Beck Oliver has a gift for noticing the things others miss. While the world sees a quiet girl, Beck sees the heavy slump of her shoulders, the sadness in her eyes, and the way she flinches when her phone buzzes with a text from home. Drawn to her authenticity in a sea of fake smiles, Beck decides to step in. But as Tori's home life reaches a breaking point, Beck must decide how far he's willing to go to protect a girl he's only just met-and Tori must decide if she's brave enough to let someone finally see the real her.

When Jade breaks up with Beck because of a mock game show put together by Sinjin about how much couples know about each other, she not only blames Sinjin for it, but Tori as well. Tori understands why Jade's so upset, but what she can't get her mind around is a simple look that Jade gave her right after blaming her. Something she never thought she'd see in the Goth's eyes. She couldn't quite explain it, but the look gave her hope that maybe, just maybe, there was a chance that she and Jade could become friends after all. When an unexpected accident occurs, Jade seemingly becomes a completely different person, who seems to have her eye on a certain girl with brown hair and brown eyes... I don't own Victorious.
