Enrique never gets kidnapped (for simplicity's sake). Jlaire is relatable and beautiful and I would never discredit it, but Clairxie intrigues me so much more. What began as a simple what-if question spiraled into a fascinating alternate story with character development, twists, angst, and adorable banter. I hope you can enjoy both this and the canon material.

In Trollhunters, Jim Lake Jr.'s father--James Lake Sr.--supposedly disappeared on Jim's 5th birthday after getting him a bike kit as a present. In this story, James Sr. walks out of Jim's and Barbara's lives after claiming he was only going on a business trip; but in actuality was leaving them for good. While Jim waits for his dad to come back, he meets Toby, who just moved in across the street. When Barbara finds out that James Sr. is never coming home again, she has to break the news to a 5-year-old Jim. This fanfiction is inspired by the Dreamworks series Trollhunters, and is how I imagined what it was like when James Lake Sr. left his family behind. I do not own Trollhunters or the characters.
