Ophelia Haynes is one of the most talented brass players the Oak Creek Band has seen. The only problem? Her severe performance anxiety. She finds that talking to people outside of her small friend circle is terrifying and is easily overwhelmed by crowds. When marching, she has no problem playing with the rest of her section, but in her junior year, an opportunity for a solo presents itself. When when her nerves overwhelm her right before an audition, one of the drum majors steps off the podium to offer her a quiet, supportive word-and an unlikely, deeply supportive friendship is born.
Long hours of band camp, late night bus rides from competitions, and football games only seem to bring them closer together, but a slight slip up between the two could cause a domino effect over everything they've been attempting to build.
