When a new ghoul, unnamed and unknown, pops into town, the small boy is immediately taken in by Tsukiyama. No-one but he trusts the newbie, who answers to 'Beast,' except... Well, no one except Tsukiyama, obviously. At the same time, a new recruit for the Doves appears. Oddly enough, Suzuya finds himself almost intimidated by the quickly rising star. This young man rarely speaks, answers to 'Toby,' and had his own Kagane created. Quite literally.

Kaneki Ken is overcome with shock with the recent events that have taken place. After a falling out with his bride, he opens a letter that was given to him earlier that week, only to find that he hasn't finished losing the people that he believed he could rely on. Rather than a harsh betrayal, however, his loyal second-in-command decided to quit pursuing the one he called his King, finding himself to be a nuisance. His self-exile was his final act of love. But what he didn't get to hear before his departure was the recent discovery of the Queen's deceit... Having been left clueless, Tsukiyama retreats without warning. With no other Ghoul at his side, Ken is left to grieve his losses on his own. Left with nothing but painfully loving memories and a series of letters, he struggles to think of a way to repair the most important of his severed relationships. But...
