When the Mystic Falls gang finds the caves under the old Lockwood cellar, they find a coffin that's nailed shut without any idea of who it belonged to. When they open it, they're surprised to find another daggered vampire. Obviously an Original, they keep the coffin in the Salvatore's basement cell, they eventually find out the last thing they expect: the vampire is Arabella Mikaelson, wife to Elijah. Arabella had been in that coffin for over five hundred years, and was ready to go back where she belonged. But when Elijah and Klaus don't jump at the chance to get her back, she begins to question whether or not that's where she was meant to be. Soon she becomes friends with Elena, but her feelings for Damon are much more confusing. She never thought that she would ever feel anything for anyone other than Elijah, but when it comes down to it, she has to decide if she can forgive Elijah, or if she wants to make a change and be with Damon.
