Full disclosure... I wrote this story years ago during the 1980s when still in college. It started as a class journaling project. As disclosed in the story, the writing was motivated when I attended Kim's wedding, the friend from the story who was Vickie's college roommate and, to this day, her lifelong friend since grade school. There were recent tweaks made to the content, near its end, that were influenced by the style of a favorite author, Sam Shepard. In general, the story is about those moments in life that shape us and is a journey through young love. Enjoy-

a collection of poems about the things my twenties gently taught me, the things i had to unlearn, and the little truths i found along the way. for the days when you wonder, "was all of this for something?" perhaps it was. perhaps it was simply leading you here. 🌷

"i don't deserve you." he said, shaking his head to emphasize his point and smiling slightly. "you're right. you deserve someone better, but i'm going to do everything i can to be the best." ... tyler just got out of high school, planning to move on and do bigger and better things. he's got amazing friends, and is majoring in something he really liked. tyler thought college would be easier than high school, but boy, was he wrong. he's just trying to survive. cramming for exams and staying up until five in the morning was not on his agenda. neither was meeting josh, the cute r.a. right across the hall.

I fell for the boy in my dreams. No, seriously. He only showed up in my dreams and I think I'm falling for him.

a collection of thoughts i probably would not say out loud. things i notice about people. things i miss. things i pretend not to care about. opinions no one asked for. questionable decisions. memories that come back at inconvenient times. tiny existential crises. movies that changed my brain chemistry. songs i have accidentally built entire personalities around. i write about growing up, love, loneliness, identity, creativity, friendships, strangers, being perceived, being misunderstood, wanting everything and sometimes wanting nothing at all. mostly, i am interested in people and why they do the things they do. the conversations we replay in our heads. the people we wonder about long after they have left. the strange little moments that somehow end up meaning everything. somewhere between a diary and a conversation with someone i have never met. written anonymously because some thoughts are easier to tell strangers. consider this the table in the back of a cafe that probably does not exist, where the conversation gets a little too personal.

Tyler regrets the decision that led to Josh cutting ties with him. Hey, months after my last heartbreak, I met this guy on Reddit. He has accelerated my healing process & suprise suprise! I am starting to like him. So let me continue my journaling here too.

The ball has come and Amira knows her duties after her 25th birthday. She must leave her home, family and friends. She is now involved in the Court of Candles a place where young adults go to meet their future partner but never return to their community. Where do they go and why is this Court of Candles so necessary are Amiras dire questions. She can trust no one but herself until maybe she meets the one.

Personal reflection on my obsession with New York - a city I've never been to, but think about every single day. Thoughts about books and shows that were taken in New York, I explore how New York is shown to us, especially for women chasing dreams. It's part daydream, part reality check - about imagining a life I don't have, while feeling stuck in the one I do. It's messy, honest, and still in progress. And it's mine.
