The boy looked up, down, to the right, and then to the left, desperately avoiding the point demanding his attention directly in front of him. The minister went on. "He was a son..." The boy's thoughts jerked back to reality. "a brother..." His eyes locked with the rain-soaked casket. "and a friend." The boy's shoulders began to shake. They were joined with a sigh at first, then a small whimper, and soon after, the strained, agonized, unsteady wailing that always accompanied weeping, and his shoulders shook uncontrollably with hopeless sobs.
