What does it take to live with a divided heart? Cleo Twain is sure she has found the answer. It takes rules. It takes keeping the thoughts of what could have been separate from the path she chose. It takes putting aside past dreams of bohemian escapades with Wolfe for a solid paycheck and a stable home with Griffin. Okay, so what if every now and then, she makes an exception? She can indulge in a few nostalgic emails with Wolfe, because her days and nights are anchored in a good life with Griffin. She's learned to forgive herself for the stolen moments, getting back on track every time she slips. Because in the real world, her troubled former best friend and her super-solid fiancΓ© do not cross wires. In her brain, or in her heart. Wolfe and the creativity he inspired within her is a dear part of her past, but her future belongs to Griffin--the best man she knows. Until Wolfe writes a novel about Cleo that is not so easily compartmentalized, causing Griffin to doubt the foundation he's built with her. Just when Cleo's rules are needed more than ever, Wolfe suffers a severe bipolar episode and Cleo can't bring herself to abandon him. Through his vulnerability, she rediscovers the tender beauty of her own soul. Sometimes, the exceptions to the rules become the most exceptional part of your life.

Cooper Van Ness was supposed to be someone impressive by now, but he's turning 26 and still living with his parents after making a few poor decisions a year ago. Now, if he wants access to his trust fund, he has six months to impress his mother and father by actually getting and keeping a job. Fortunately, his best friend Izzy, as bonkers as she can be, has just the job for him: writer at the Cobham Courant, one of the last independent small town newspapers in the country, conveniently owned by her father. How hard could writing for a little known newspaper be? Unfortunately, no one warned him about Erica Madsen. After 4 years of blood, sweat and toil, Erica Madsen was next in line to be the new advice columnist at the Cobham Courant. When the editor announces someone else is getting it, some rich kid who got the position because he knows the Courant's owner, she hatches a plan to drive Cooper Van Ness to quit. But with her siblings making (unwanted) surprise announcements and her father getting out of prison, will this rivalry with Van Ness get the best of this tough as nails former pageant queen?

Twenty-something Annabelle. Hi. Trying to figure life out. I might come off as crazy. sometimes boring and everything in between. You don't have to read my story but I've never read a story like mine and maybe there are people who might be able to relate to shit I'm going through. I'm not on an amazing soul searching journey backpacking around Europe nor am I working at an amazing company that pays me well enough so that I can live in a high rise somewhere in New York. I'm not even the hopeless romantic that has a dead end job who orders pizza every night (which seems to be the story line of a lot of books). I'm not even that into pizza to be honest. I'm just here, trying to make the best of everything but at times I'm in my bed curled up and feeling sorry for myself. Is this a chick-lit? I don't know, I don't know what category my story goes into and maybe it doesn't even fit in a specific category but here it is anyway.

Four years. That's how long it's been since Haley escaped her tiny, rumor-plagued hometown for college across the country and never looked back. Freshly graduated with a job lined up in New York, she's determined to make her first visit back to Blue Isle a short detour on the way to her new life. But that plan didn't take into account her ex-best friend, Monica, being found floating face down in a pond the week of her return. Despite the turmoil that brewed between them and led to her branding as the town's pariah before her timely exit, Haley becomes determined to uncover the truth behind Monica's death. But that also means coming face to face with the ghosts of her past, like confronting her complicated relationship with Monica's boyfriend, Landon, the boy who'd wronged her all those years ago, and navigating an entangled friendship with her alluring ex, Boone. As Haley digs deeper into the mystery, old wounds resurface, and she realizes the answers to the present mystery might just lie buried in the past. That is, if she can solve it before it leaves her buried, too.

What is the price of making dreams come true? Can they be bought with money, or do they require something else? Greg wants to see his dreams come true -- to furnish his apartment with nice things, find the perfect girl to share it with, and ultimately become a bigger success than his father had been -- but life keeps finding ways to alter his plans. Can Greg adapt to life's little wrenches and overcome impoverishing events to bring his dreams to reality? Or will he succumb to the hardships of being twentysomething and accept the life he's been given? "Shell Out" is a story I first wrote in 2006 and was inspired by a man crank-calling a local radio station about the stupid things he had sold on eBay. At some point, it will become the first story in a new collection of works called "Tales of Economic Survival," which share a common theme of people working crappy jobs to make ends meet. It's a comedy.
