In Chapter 1 - Crossways, Tony spends the weekend with his sister and her family, and gets a late start for home Sunday night. Too tired to continue, he parks on the side of the road for a short nap. He wakes up too late to make it to work on time. But, as he'll soon discover, losing his job will be the least of his worries. Chapter 1 is less than 1,000 words. I'll add additional flash-fiction stories as I write them, each under 1,500 words. I hope you enjoy them, and I'd love to hear what you think. ~Simultaneously published on PoetrySoup and Royal Road.

    - Do you like him? - he asked in a serious tone. - Excuse me? - my heartbeat quickened again. - Do you enjoy being asked things twice, or do you really not understand? - I chuckled. - Why are you asking? I thought you had something to discuss.- - Do you like him... or are you just forcing yourself to believe you do? - He took a step closer. I instinctively stepped back, my back now pressed against the garden wall. - Answer me. - His face moved even closer. If I were braver, I would have kissed him right then and there. My whole body was begging me to. - Yes. - Yes, what? - Yes, I like him. He braced one hand against the wall, right beside my face. - Why are you even asking me this? - If you were mine, - he murmured, leaning in so close I could feel his breath, - I wouldn't let you go anywhere alone-especially not with another man, no matter what business you had to discuss.
