The honor falls to Alex Hirsch the real creator of Gravity Falls and the canon characters. All characters are not canon nor approved by the creator of Gravity Falls to be a sequel. This is an AU( Alternate Universe) that is parallel to the canon show. The starting is lead off from the last canon episode when Ford takes Stan into the ocean stating" I am detecting more weird anomalies from the ocean". They just came back and discovers there is more weirdness that the ocean. By the way, if you read, some parts of the story have been coded using numerous ciphers and codes. One part= one cipher or code. Unscramble them in order for the main story to be clear.
