“Bethany,” Cassandra, Bethany’s mother, called, “come down here and enjoy the rest of your party.” Bethany did as told. It wasn’t very pretty when her mother got angry with her. As she walked down the steps she could have sworn he saw a pixie. ‘Just a trick of the light’ she thought. Bethany shuddered, but kept down the stairs. Her mother was waiting by the back door that led to the little park next door. Behtany went out to join her friends when Simon came in to talk to Cassandra, “You will have to tell her evenutally.” “I know, but not now. I don’t want to ruin her childhood scared a Jerkie is hiding under her bed,” Cassandra said, reffering to the olny demon who would try to scare little children. “You do check right?” Simon said jokingly. Cassandra nodded. “I hope that those pesky fairies won’t try and ruin the surprise,” Simon said. Cassandra laughed. Simon could do that, make her laugh. “If only Jermy was here,” Cassandera said refering to her dead son, “He would protect her.” Bethany is just a regular fifthteen year old girl, and that’s ture until she turns sixteen. Bethany’s mother tells he about her true life as a Shadowhunter. She figures out she can fight demons, shadows, heartless, and underworlders. Can Bethany handel it all? Will her best friend, Andie, still be there for her? Or will her world unravel with four little words?

The world has just gone through a dreadful war. Almost all of the land is gone, from immense bombings and the remaining land is radioactive. The people left who managed to get underground are called, Underworlders and they have created a new society in fear of radioactivity. Eden has grown up in this society of fear, hardship, and chaos but she is different. She is smart, clever, and exceptional at anything releated to science or logic. What will Eden do when she has to make the hard decision, die or live in fear?
