Archie has always been good at disappearing.
Too small, too nervous, too poetic for his own good, he survives university by staying on the edge of every room and pretending not to notice the people who seem born to belong there. Especially Evelyn. Calm, sharp, untouchable, who moves through campus like she already knows where every crack in the world will appear.
At first, she is just the girl who catches falling forks, predicts accidents a second too early, and looks at Archie like she can hear him thinking.
Then a night at the cinema goes wrong.
Smoke fills the theater. The crowd panics. Archie is left behind.
And Evelyn comes back for him.
After that, Archie can no longer pretend she is normal. Evelyn is stronger than she should be, faster than she should be, and far more dangerous than anyone realizes. But the more he learns about her, the harder it becomes to decide what scares him more: what she is hiding, or the fact that she chose him to see it.
A strange, slow-burn romance about class, secrets, impossible strength, and a boy who was never meant to survive the fire.
