Not everyone could see him. Not everyone could feel him. But I could. And that was strange. Not because I was seeing him- but because he was never meant to be seen by me. Avik. The one who doesn't even exist... yet I feel him in ways I shouldn't. He was a secret I was never supposed to know, a presence only I could sense. And somewhere along the way, it turned into something else- something neither of us ever planned. Maybe I wasn't supposed to know about him... but I did. And now, I'm not going to leave. Because what if I see him today... and tomorrow, he's gone?

Some homes are loud. Some homes are full. Some homes are both-and still leave you feeling invisible. If you've ever felt unseen in your own family, this story will stay with you. Unlearning Home is not a story about broken walls, but about the quiet cracks no one talks about. Growing up in a house filled with people, expectations, and unspoken rules, she learns early how to stay silent, how to wait, how to take up less space. But what happens when you begin to question everything you were taught to accept? Unlearning Home is a raw, introspective memoir about growing up in a family where love existed-but so did control, silence, and invisible hierarchies. This is a story about family, power, and love- and the slow, painful process of unlearning what once felt like home. This isn't about running away from home. It's about realizing what "home" really was.

I always thought I was normal. Sure, people stared at me a little longer than they stared at everyone else, but I figured that was just life. I had a job I loved, an apartment in New York City, and a family back in Austria. It wasn't perfect, but it was mine. Then one ordinary morning, I looked into a coffee shop window and saw something reflected behind me. Within days, everything I believed about myself was shattered. The creatures I grew up believing were myths are real, and somehow, I'm one of them. Now I'm expected to learn a world that has existed in secret for centuries, follow rules I don't understand, and survive enemies I never knew I had. The more I uncover about who I am, the more questions I find. Why was my past hidden from me? Why is everyone so afraid of what I'm becoming? And if I was never truly human... then who am I? One thing is certain. The truth was hidden for a reason.

You don't remember when it started. Not really. Just the feeling. Subtle at first. Like being watched for a second too long. Like something in your space that didn't belong, but never enough to prove it. So you ignored it. Until you didn't. Until you answered. And something answered back. Now he's there. Not always where you can see him. Not always where he should be. But close enough to feel. Close enough to touch when he decides to. He doesn't chase you. He doesn't need to. Because no matter how far you move, how tightly you shut the door, how hard you try not to look, you always feel him behind you. Watching. Learning you. Wanting. And the worst part? He doesn't hide what he is. Not cruel. Not kind. Something in between. Something that shouldn't exist in your world, but refuses to leave it. Refuses to leave you. He says he only wants to be seen. But the way he looks at you feels like more than that. Like hunger. Like patience. Like he's waiting for the moment you stop running and start turning toward him instead. Because the truth is, he's not afraid of you hating him. He's afraid of you never looking back. And once you finally do, he's not letting you look away.

Just took out the trash and was thinking how the lights in the world keep us from seeing the stars in the sky. I wanted to make an analogy, but I don't know how it ended in the end. I honestly feel like the second last line was not good enough. I like opinions and thoughts. Please let me know people!
