The world had asked for someone who could fix it. Someone who could stop wars, end hunger, cure disease, and keep humanity from destroying itself. Then the Divine arrived. And he promised salvation-but at a terrible cost.

The countryside is constantly ravaged by Blood Storms, no one goes in them unless they want to travel to another city. Unlike the countryside, cities have a chance to rebuild but mistrust and violence over resources have made it hard for them to come back together. Totalitarian groups formed from old military remnants, promising to save the world but secretly want it to stay fractured just for their own gain of power in the seat. Groups formed outside these cities, fighting for survival, Raiders attack in the night and melee becomes the new combat norm. Storm Sickness ravages large populations. They are discriminated against and hated against, considered a different race other than humans. Sanctuaries formed to protect the sick. The Kreed sit as the only group that can stop the Rymar's advance against the Sick. And in all of this mayhem, murder, chaos and misery, Kade Malken and Rovan Kreesh's stories shall unfold. This short story came about when I misinterpreted an apple announcement in that the new iwatch would be able to determine your longevity based on health apps. I immediately imagined a doomsday app, not based on the usual curious and curiouser factors that one usually has when consulting a medium or fortune teller. I thought an actual app that tracks everything about you from your smart watch, down to your eating habits, heart beat, blood pressure, O2 sats, activities and on and on. We are there already, but throw into the mix a longevity algorithm and this could get scary. What curious soul would want this? There is always someone. Go to the web and you will find plenty of doomsday countdowns. But what if the wearable tech were to become part of state regulation? A means whereby health insurers, big Pharma, and other related entities would determine your benefits, or worse control you by products whereby your longevity algorithm is prolonged. Welcome to Die Watch!

At every turn humans were making worse and worse mistakes when it came to love, and the human race was dying out, and that was a race that we could not afford to lose. Who was going to save the human race? What was going to save the human race? The answer... doctors and souls.

With the cities growing from clouds and the railways hanging over oceans, humanity has reached its calmest. But each fertile woman and each fertile man must be married by age twenty-five in order to guarantee the continuation of the human race. As freeing as this airy world is, perhaps anyone can feel trapped in a birdcage when wedded to a stranger. And maybe keeping friends close will be harder than one would imagine, especially when grave danger lurks over the horizon.

To the future of the human race, for years now I’ve wondered what humanity did to deserve such a fate as what has happened. When asked the question by another I always answered as if God has had a hand in it but really I don’t believe that. I think it has something to do with the greater picture. We are but mere specks in the open universe, a blip on a screen that makes no difference to anything else around. Evolve, kill, breed; humans will do whatever they need to keep on living and that’s what makes us so special. We are the pinnacle of the universe, one of a kind, and I shall not let what people have done go to waste.

"Society knows perfectly well how to kill a man and has methods more subtle than death." Being pure is what everyone longs to be. To rid of your past complications and be innocent overall. But if being pure came with a price, would you still take the opportunity? How deep are you willing to go to become socially acceptable? Would you risk losing love for the people you're close to? Or risk the ability to have a family? Risking it all just to live lavishly and risking your sanity just to be treated fairly.
