Out of nowhere, a low sound wailed through the sky. It wasn't particularly loud, but just annoying enough for me to hear it very well.
Chills ran up my arms at the sound of it. I'd only heard that noise a rare few times in my life, and none of them were for good reasons. Sirens?
Luca's grip slipped on Mr. Walker as he was temporarily distracted by the sound. Mr. Walker took advantage of the opportunity by elbowing Luca in the stomach. Ooh, that looked like that hurt. Luca was left doubled over as Mr. Walker ran from him in the direction of the explosions screaming at the top of his lungs.
His screams were slowly drowned out by the sound of metal groaning. It sounded far away at first, but it seemed to slowly get closer and closer. The only problem was that I couldn't tell which direction it was coming from. Whatever it was, it sounded heavy.
I pushed myself up to my knees trying to get a hold of Luca's attention, so we could get out of there. I had a terrible feeling in my stomach that things were about to take a deadly turn for the worst.
I called out his name but it died off on my tongue as the sound of groaning metal finally registered in my head as the sound of an engine failing. I looked up just in time to see a plane, a full commercial airline airplane, plummeting towards the ground through the clouds at breakneck speeds. And it was falling right over us.
I didn't remember climbing to my feet, I didn't remember yanking Luca to his feet either. I just remembered running. Running so fast and so hard, but I still couldn't seem to get far enough away to be out of its way. The plane grew larger and larger in my vision as it came closer to the ground. It was like a terribly bad dream. The one you'd jerk awake from in your bed in the middle of the night covered in sweat...only, this wasn't a dream. That was quickly revealed to me when the plane hit the ground.
