Instead, she meets a thief named Keruu who is about to be hanged. Following her instinct, she saves him and tries to nurse him back to full health. Vala starts to develop a relationship with him, but he leaves her to tie up some loose ends, not seeming aware of her feelings for him. Following him, Vala travels through the dark shadows of the unknown, trying to save Keruu from the true enemy, an unseen force of evil that could mean the end of everything.
