There's this moment in the 2005 movie adaptation which makes me laugh because Mr. Darcy is so cold and aloof... and that's the moment where Elizabeth asks, "Do you dance, Mr. Darcy?" Presumably just making an effort to be friendly. And he says, "Not if I can help it." in a very matter-of-fact way. What makes it even funnier is that later, at the Netherfield Ball, he asks her to dance, and she is surprised and agrees despite the fact that she doesn't like him. The "Do you dance" scene directly precedes (in the movie) the scene where Darcy tells Bingley that Elizabeth is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him... so that is the moment which ingrains in the mind of the town that Mr. Darcy is a proud, disagreeable man. But, I wonder how it would have gone if he answered differently to her question...

She knows and loves him for what he is, not what he pretends to be and until he has some security of his own, she will never risk hers by marrying him. Step back inside the delightful world of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and accompany Wickham along the twists and turns of his travels from Cambridge, through London and Ramsgate, to the seemingly safe and insignificant side-turning into Meryton. Unbeknownst to him, this is a detour which will forever alter his journey.

Immerse yourself once again in the delightful world of Pride and Prejudice and Felicity in Marriage, and re-join your favourite characters in the middle of a peaceful Summer when the smallest indiscretion will once more throw everyone's lives into disarray. Life has been too happy and too quiet for too long.

When the ones he looked up to and depended on faded away, he must find a new path, and perhaps bring together the multiple dimensions of the world.
