It is about a girl (who is young and innocent) who had been verbally abused by men (her father). This is a true story on my part. My father used to talk me down and insult me a lot when I was younger. The words he used really hurt me, and for a long time I believed everything that he told me. I believed that I was fat and stupid and worthless. But my friends and my mom helped me see that I am not those things. So I understand the pain the girl in my poem went through.

"You even have yourself fooled that there's nothing wrong... Your fake face is on too tight." Lucas said, with eyes wide. "My what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Your fake face, that fake smile that hides everything painful, it's put on so well you haven't even noticed it. Heck, no one has probably noticed it except me." "How did you notice it?" He smiled, sadly. "I had the very same look in my eyes, that you have in yours. So, tell me Beverly, what's made you so sad?" Spin-off of "In between Sweater Sleeves".
