Recovering from a concussion, New York PI, Miles Goodspeed is investigating a suspicious death on a famous director Harry Cullin's Vermont film set aided by his disgruntled sidekick, Jackie Woo. Woo, a high stakes card dealer, has ulterior motives and wants to break into the film industry. Once they arrive in the scenic Green Mountain state-Goodspeed and Woo find their work cut out for them-dealing with evasive locals and a churlish movie mogul who must be cleared of murder. *** Famous for its idyllic beauty and delicious soft serve maple creemees, scenic Mapleton, Vermont is the perfect remote location for infamous director, Cullin's, new horror film, 'The Darkness'. The second week of production, an accidental death occurs onset prompting Goodspeed's ex-wife, Matilda, a local podcaster, to call in his investigative skills. Powerful politicians would like to brush the suspicious death under the rug and keep production money flowing into Mapleton, but Matilda smells a story brewing that might catapult her to vlogging fame. Out of his element in the pastoral crime scene, Goodspeed only agrees to take the case due to a financial slump caused by his injury. Housed in a rural cabin near the production set with sporadic Wi-fi and erratic cell service, he soon learns the quirky locals have more up their plaid sleeves than tourist traps, fiery town halls, and cornering the maple cremee market. One of them is a murderer.
