After Pliny's mother and uncle died tragically following the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD, he's been on his own. One day, as he is walking across the Forum, he bumps into the most famous author of the Roman Empire. It's Tacitus. Tacitus isn't someone you should argue with. He decides what goes down in history, with a single piece of writing, he could ruin your life. He loves the power he possesses and uses it in his advantage. He couldn't possibly be the kind of guy Pliny falls for, right? --------------------------------------------------------- He was walking across the Forum, head facing the cobble stones, when he bumped straight into someone. 'Mind your step,' he said angrily, not wanting to waste any more time. 'You're not supposed to talk to me like that,' an ice-cold voice said, sending shivers down his spine, 'do you have the slightest idea who you're talking to?' It was only at that moment I he looked up and his bright green eyes took him up and down. It was him. The most famous author that could kill your career with his pen.

This story is about a boy named Joseph and his family escaping Pompeii. This is a short historical fiction that I made so the family may not be real, because I was not there when Vesuvius erupted 2,000 years ago! I got the important details that I worked into this story about Pompeii. Pompeii is a real town in Italy that was rediscovered and excavated between the late 1700s and today. 1/3 of Pompeii is still under ash today so that artifacts and art will be preserved for the future. If you complain about historical times, I will not listen because this is HISTORICAL FICTION which means it's based on real events. Three other cities fell to Vesuvius's pyroclastic ash clouds. That means that Vesuvius literally exploded. Anyone here have gone to the Philadelphia Franklin Institute's Pompeii Exhibit earlier in February 2014? Hope you enjoyed this book! :)

The story takes place about twelve years before the events of Murder in-absentia in Egretia, during 63 BCE in Rome (just after the events of Catilina's Riddle by Steven Saylor), and in 79 AD in Rome (A couple of years after Lindsey Davis' Nemesis). It offers a glimpse into how Felix became who he is. This story is fan-fiction. Gordianus the Finder is © Steven Saylor, Marcus Didius Falco is © Lindsey Davis. Both are used without permission but with much love and admiration.

please note that this will suck since it is my first story. Also this story is placed some time in the future. Romano was not himself today, and has not been for the past two. Forced to leave his home in Naples because of the warning. The official warning that Mt. Vesuvius would erupt. Romano was lucky, he lived on the edge of Naples and got the hell out of there before the insane traffic, still thousands left in there cars, trying to retreat from the red zone. Romano was suppose to visit Span today, no I won't, Romano thought. He could feel it, if anything was to happen, it would happen today. But no other country knew it, because of course, Romano would not tell anyone about it, and would not let Italy say a word. Mostly because he did not want to be wrong, since the technology they used to predict the eruption was knew. Romano was watching the live "Volcano watch" on TV. He got up to call Spain saying he wouldn't be there today, but just as he did "I can't believe this. Vesuvius is actually erupting!" came from the T.V. Romano was waiting for Spain to answer and watching the T.V with a emotionless face. "Si, Romano, what is it?" Spain said in his usually cheerful voice. "Oh, uh, I won't be there today, bye." Roman hung up and sat back down watching the T.V. "This is a true tragedy, all those people still stuck in the danger zones..." The news story seemed to never end to Romano. Romano looked outside, he could only see ash clouds, to high to suffocate people, but at the height where all air traffic would be at a stand still, and he knew that in a matter of hours, all of Europe would be like this.

Pompeii, 79 AD. Before the ash fell. Before the sky turned black. In a city alive with color and ambition, Livia Aemilia-daughter of a rising merchant-faces a marriage arranged to secure her family's fortune. Marcus Varenius, a gifted sculptor with dreams beyond Pompeii's walls, believes stone can outlast anything. When their paths cross, defiance becomes devotion. Beneath painted ceilings and vineyard shadows, they build a love that feels eternal. But history has already written the ending. As tremors ripple through the streets and Mount Vesuvius stirs, Livia and Marcus must choose between safety and freedom-knowing the earth itself is beginning to break. A fictional love story set against one of history's most devastating natural disasters, Marble and Cinders asks: What survives when the world does not?

Pliny sends another piece of paper flying across the room. He just doesn't seem to get the words quite right. It was only yesterday his crush asked him to write down the story of his uncle's death. No big deal, you would say, but the problem is that his crush did not ask him out of interest. He is working on his new book, about history. Pliny's uncle died in one of the most tragic disasters to ever occur on Earth and Tacitus has asked him for a more detailed description. It seems hard, almost impossible, for Pliny to ever tell Tacitus how he feels. It's why he wants to write the perfect letter, with cliffhanger, because then maybe Tacitus would reach out to him again
