I was never a big fan of what Tim Burton did on BATMAN RETURNS, even though I like a lot of the stuff in that sequel. To keep my story more in the spirit of the 1989 original movie, I turned it into a more direct sequel to the first Batman film with Michael Keaton and brought back Vicki Vale and expanded slightly on the character of Commissioner Gordon. I also decided to take out Max Shreck and the Ice Princess, because I strongly feel that they took away from the comics-based characters in the movie.
