Victor was just lucky to be alive, much less be living in the Holmes manor. His only friend had always been his only secret, and as a servant he had begun to feel special to his master's heart. It's been a while since the two neighbors had talked to each other, just long enough to forget their childish young love almost eight years ago. John had half forgotten about his curious neighbor, aside from the daily reminder he got when the sun went down and the window remained illuminated, uncurtained, and exposed.
