LỜI MỞ ĐẦU Trời đêm rách toạc. Một vệt đỏ lao xuống từ quỹ đạo, đuôi lửa rít như tiếng gầm của thú khổng lồ. Rừng Lyerra bừng sáng trong khoảnh khắc ngắn ngủi, để lộ những cặp mắt hoảng sợ nhìn lên từ bóng tối: mắt người, mắt Sói, mắt Hổ, mắt Chim Ưng. Chúng - những kẻ ở trên trời - đã đến. Không phải với lời chào, mà với máy móc, virus, và tham vọng. Người thú từ ngàn đời chỉ biết đến luật không máu - dừng trước khi dao chạm da, giữ nhịp sống bằng hơi thở, bằng tru gọi bầy. Nhưng một giọt máu đêm ấy đã rơi, và từ đó nhịp lệch. Trong tiếng sắt thép va chạm, trong mùi khói và nhựa cháy, ai đó sẽ phải đứng lên. Một kẻ mang trong người nhịp tim khác thường - nhịp tổng hợp của nhiều loài, vừa là cứu rỗi, vừa là nguy cơ. Và câu hỏi vang ra từ tận đáy đêm đỏ: Khi tham vọng của loài người muốn điều khiển tất cả, khi máu đã đổ xuống đất này, liệu nhịp còn đủ mạnh để giữ cho một thế giới không hóa thành quái vật?
