When the two locked eyes again, she knew something had changed. The playful glint in his murderous orbs was gone, replaced now by some sort of menacing blaze.
'You...' he uttered in astonishment. Trench Coat must've heard the change in his voice, because he appeared two seconds later, grabbing the dagger and aiming it right at her gut.
'You're taking too bloody long' He brought his arm back, prepared to strike, when Ian caught his wrist and prevented him from going any further.
'This is no Veil,' he hissed. Jessica was getting dizzy from the lack of air, and her hands, which were feebly holding onto Ian's suffocating ones, slowly began to loosen their protective grip.
Trench Coat seemed to understand what was taking place, because his demeanor changed, too. They both became very defensive, keeping Jessica pinned, but also staying out of her reach.'It can't be her,' the man stated in disgust.
'Maybe not, but she's something. Her blood... it's toxic...'
'Maybe she's a semi?'
'No, I'm telling you... it's here.'
(This is a finished novel. I will add a chapter every Monday and Wednesday until they're all up. 23 chapters total.)
