He quickly realises how much his surroundings are constricted, his legs are tightly bound and he is being cradled in someone's arms. He opens his eyes and sees a woman leaning over him and realises she must be the one holding them. She's humming softly with a warm and happy smile. He can see that her skin is clammy and there are bruises under her eyes, the eyes that are amber, golden-brown as well as smoky topaz, but that doesn't dim her smile as she gazes upon the person in her arms. She's white and her brown hair surrounds her face in messy curls.

The date is December 15th, 2410. An incident in deep space sends Kal Tendi, the son of D'Vana Tendi and Sam Rutherford, to investigate. The USS Scotia is a ship of two crews: Starfleet officers who follow the rules, and former Maquis rebels who make their own. This is a Star Trek Voyager fanfiction. All I own is Jaden and her storyline. Although it's only four chapters, the story is complete as a short story. But I may continue it. So, keep an eye out for an update and feel free to comment! I hope to see you people around!

Nearly 20 years after the Voyager crew returns to the Alpha Quadrant the galaxy is at war. Many of the original crew are dead or lost. The Federation and it's allies are being destroyed, and everything the Federation values is being called into question as humanity faces it's potential extinction. Will the freedom-loving races of the galaxy continue to live in the face of their enemy, or will the living damned overrun the stars?

"You really care about her, don't you?" Tom said, but the commander didn't answer. So Tom clarified his statement. "The Captain, I mean." "I have the utmost respect and admiration for Captain Janeway." Chakotay's response had been a long time coming. "Yeah, that too..." Tom threw in, as the tone of Chakotay's voice suggested the question had hit a little too close to home. Tom paused momentarily, mulling over what to say next or whether to keep his mouth shut. He put his hand on Chakotay's shoulder. "Commander, I could be wrong but, personally, I think you're holding out on false hope. If it was me, I'd want to know for sure. Maybe even push the point. Make a move. I mean, what's the worst case scenario here? Either she's going to phaser you, or she's going to..." "Consider yourself relieved, Lieutenant!" They both jumped, startled at the sound of her voice. Inwardly, Tom wondered how long the captain might have been standing behind him, while he tried to remember the last few words of his conversation with Chakotay. SYMBOLS or more informally "Why the heck Chakotay chose Seven of Nine when, previously, he wanted to throw her out the nearest airlock" is a work of fanfiction. It sticks to canon and is an ensemble piece, but focuses on Janeway and Chakotay predominantly. Paramount and Pocket Books own everything Star Trek - no copyright breaches intended. I just took the characters out for a play. Literary agent sent most of this to Pocket Books in 1998, but they didn't want it. I have a sweet rejection letter! So it's mine now. A couple of re-writes since then to relocate it in Season 7 and add Chapter 1 and the Epilogue. Voyager is out of commission and not wanting to waste time tracking the Maquis, Janeway is forced to assume temporary command of the USS Defiant. joined by Kira, Odo, O'Brien, Jadzia and Bashier the Defiant dives into the Badlands to track down Chakotay only to find themselves in a bad situation.

Athena had expected many things boarding starship Voyager. Except this one thing, to be stranded in the delta quadrant, 60 000 lightyears from home. A stranger to almost everyone, she has to find her way. Both on the ship, as her way home. Since I normally do not write in English, errors will be a regular occurence.
