Alice Evans has reached a complete standstill in her life; her job is thankless and morally bankrupt, her family contacts her about as much as they would a prison inmate, and her hygiene has slipped to such a degree that she ought to at least be entered into some Guinness World Record.
However, there's no underlying Greek tragedy; her house never burnt down, her parents never died, she grew up comfortably middle class, and she's never even had a pet die. But then Alice is suddenly thrust away from her comfortable, albeit somewhat miserable, life and begins to wonder if she ever was happy.
