Stars that burn the brightest fall the fastest. The greatest danger in the history of the Clans is approaching. Breeze, a former warrior of the Stormy Sky Clan after many moons of separation, decides to return to her fellows. Together with Breeze, her four daughters join the Clan who have never tasted life among wild cats. Young cats, sure that nothing will surprise them, soon find out that you can't be sure of anything in this forest. A mysterious group of rogues arrive in the forest, wanting to bring new orders. The situation seems to be hopeless, there are many more rogues and their leader seems to be undefeated. Will the Clans abandon their own pride in the face of the threat? With the return of cats deemed lost, a reconnaissance patrol is formed to investigate the origins and possible weaknesses of the Shadowless. Larkwing also joins them in the hope of finally finding answers to the disappearance of her foster mother. Soon the cats of the reconnaissance patrol have to travel to a distant area beyond the Clans in order to find important clues. But the things they discover there leave them speechless. Not only are they confronted with the truth about the origin of the Shadowless, but also that the world outside the Clan territories harbours a tragic secret.
