    In the magical times, there were many holidays. People observed the rendezveuz of winter and spring, they enjoyed their ritual of jumping over the bonfire, they celebrated Destiny Day and many others. Lelnyk or the Red Hill Festivity in mid spring was one of them. People believed that the Great Mother Nature came to Earth embodied as a young girl Lelia. She was imagined as a beautiful lass with flowing hair and her head embellished with spring flowers and lush grass. Her arrival woke up nature from hibernation and inducted young girls into adult life, granting them with the status of a woman, future mother and guardian of the family.
