This is a poem to participate in the 'World Within Words' contest, organised by Challenge Book | Multicultural Community. All participants must align with this prompt: While travelling to a different country, you meet someone who changes your perspective on life. The poem portrays the bond between a Western visitor, Max, and a affable gardener, Haruto, who maintains his flowers in one of Japan's Sakura gardens. Max travels to the Japanese city to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival and fortuitously meets Haruto. The skilled gardener assists Max in comprehending the significance of his work, acknowledging the importance of each moment. Such lessons induce a profound transformation in Max's life. _____ Sakura (桜 or さくら) is the Japanese term for cherry blossom. These blooms represent the arrival of spring, renewal and the fleetingness of life.

In the magical times, there were many holidays. People observed the rendezveuz of winter and spring, they enjoyed their ritual of jumping over the bonfire, they celebrated Destiny Day and many others. Lelnyk or the Red Hill Festivity in mid spring was one of them. People believed that the Great Mother Nature came to Earth embodied as a young girl Lelia. She was imagined as a beautiful lass with flowing hair and her head embellished with spring flowers and lush grass. Her arrival woke up nature from hibernation and inducted young girls into adult life, granting them with the status of a woman, future mother and guardian of the family.

The story is about two people, Takashi and Emi, who meet at the Sakura Festival in Tokyo during cherry blossom season. Takashi is a photographer, and Emi loves Japanese culture. They start talking about photography and exploring the festival together, and Takashi asks Emi out. They go on many dates and fall in love. Takashi proposes to Emi under a cherry blossom tree, and she says yes. However, they witness a group of protesters who are against the festival and decide to help clean up the area, which results in some of the protesters joining them.
