After the events of six months ago, Zakiya keeps to herself. Things are just safer that way. And everyone and everything just seems to make her so angry now... She may cover it with her undeniably dry, almost bitter, sense of humor, but she's angry. And she knows it. So, she enters the (court-ordered) Anger Management program with no protest. There; she meets somebody.-Rylander, who singlehandedly changes her life as she knows it. Rylander denies that he is angry. He hides that uncontrollable rage underneath layers of cheer. That is the only lie he will ever keep- his anger. So, he wants to lose it, wants to fix it, the faster the better. And his father agrees. The first lesson, he was dragged there. The next, he went, in silence. Part of his cheeriness, he makes friends with a strangely aloof girl- Zakiya, who shows him that everything that he believes in is a lie and everything he doesn't can exist. So, they don't come to anger management looking for friends. They don't come expecting to make a friend that meshes with their soul so well, it is hard to picture life without them. And when they do make that friend... they just don't expect all that backlash.

Poetry is an escape. For me I spent years writing on napkins, cups, scrap paper, even my pants in school. Now you can read my first installment of poetry called The Hidden Rose. "Tessa?" The man across from me asked, in an uninterested tone, his eyes never straying from my face, waiting for me to speak. His eyes finally left mine, to glance down at the watch that accompanied his wrist. I took the opportunity, to look closely at him. He was attractive enough for someone around there mid forties. His hair was neatly combed, with grey roots. His eyes were a dark chocolate brown that held so much irritation. I scoffed. This was his fucking job, was it not? He had no right to be irritated, especially not at a girl who just found her best friend dying, not even 24 hours ago. I wanted to tell- no I wanted to scream. I wanted to show this man, this fuck wad, that he did not have the right to be irritable. Anger radiated off of me like a kicked bull. I glared at him, my eyes narrowing into slits. And boy, did he feel the rays of my heated glare. Because now, his eyes mirrored mine. "Id advise you show some respect to your officers." He says on the edge of a snarl. "My best friend is dead, you insensitive ass!" I shot back at him with no intention to bite back my fiery. "I need a statement of what you saw." He says bored, I swear if he wouldn't be jeopardized his job, he'd roll his eyes. "Shes dead." I said, dodging his statement. I couldn't handle saying what I saw- much less in detailed description. But he was persistent in pressing the issue. "Ma'm, I need you to describe to me what happened." I exploded from my seat, throwing my hands up the air, exasperatingly. "I sat in a puddle of her blood as she bled to death in her own bathroom!" I yell desperately trying to communicate that I was done with his bull shit. He has the liberty to plop down into his chair, with a deep sigh of annoyance like I was such a hassle. I take the opportunity to storm towards the doors and slam it shut, but not before throwing the bird over my shoulder. I can only hope that I never have the displeasure of seeing that bastard ever again.

It is 2008 and In 2008 the whole world changed. And not just because the iphone came out in 2007. It wasn't just the families of the OC Housewives that were living a reality show; so many families seemed to be all about "the house" and not "the home." Sunglasses cost hundreds of dollars and "bags" were thousands. Everything had a label that said you spent a lot of money. People went crazy buying another house, a boat, a Hummer (at 10 miles to the gallon). I distinctly remember two couples, in their late 30s, who were shopping together in Toys R Us. They had a video camera and were discussing the "rules" to this shopping trip. The rules were they had to look into the camera and say what they were buying, for who and why. And the carts had to be overflowing with toys. It was as if they had dreamed their entire lives of doing a "who cares how much it costs" shopping spree at Toys R Us for their children. Just recklessly spending on a bunch of STUFF. That was 2007. And then came 2008. But, more disturbing to me, was the impact it had on families. I think moms and dads lost themselves in providing stuff for their kids and not giving their kids time. And I saw the kids suffer because of it. So, I did a little research and a lot of observing and I wrote a mostly fictional story about an upper-middle class family in the OC. It explores (it simple terms) what was going on in the economy and what teenagers really want from their parents...
