This is a short, non-fictional story about a man and his family that are burdened with grief, loss, remorse, and anger through the violent and sudden death of a relative. It is written from the perspective of a teenage girl who spends one afflictive but life-changing night with this family and discovers within herself the deepest of strengths and weaknesses for what seems like the first time in her life.

That moment that they thought they guarded their heart from pain due to their past experience being heartbroken...but they're wrong, they didn't guard it with their might because now they're in pain...not yet broken but in a continuous pain of heart.
